Meet the Team

Luke Dolby- Chairman

Thank you for taking the time to learn about the work of Build A School.

My background in the media and teaching was supplemented by further study in sustainable development education. My role in recent times has diversified from working on school build programmes to researching the best ways to promote sustainability through education in the developing world.

I believe the Millennium Development Goals are a great, although not perfect, unifier for different groups to work together to lift people out of poverty. Yet as a former teacher I know that even in the UK there is a large gap between the challenges we face in the modern world, like climate change and energy, to knowledge on these issues reaching the child in the classroom. This must be addressed immediately in the places that suffer most because of this gap- the developing world.

I am a keen footballer, but yet to lift the Mbelekete Cup in Malawi, having been on the receiving end of several defeats by a team of 10 year olds.

Grieve Massa- Malawi Manager

Greetings from Malawi. How are you all?

I'm the manager here in Malawi and I use my skills to help transfer money to our builders and check the smooth running of Build A School on the ground. I use my experience and contacts to improve the success of our charity here in Africa. I check your cash is spent effectively and help support Build A School in the UK with advice. It's my job to keep you guys updated.

Paul Richards

Hi everyone. I qualified as an architect in 1979 and worked for local practices in Bath and Bristol until starting my own practice in 1984. My real passion is self build and set up Architecture Verte with my son in 2004 to focus on sustainable development. Additional skills I bring to Build A School are my technical expertise in renewable energy design and a bundle of enthusiasm for Africa- I was born there!! Working with Build A School has helped me fulfil a lifelong ambition to return and help Africa in our global struggle for sustainable living.

Nayesh Radia

I was born in Malawi but came to England in the late 1970's. I worked as an actor, appearing in films/TV and many National Theatre productions. I have written for radio and stage. I currently work in the IT sector.

After recent developments in Africa, I approached various organisations to join as a volunteer. I came across Build A School and felt a strong affinity with the organisation's outlook. I am now on board as a trustee and bring my skills and enthusiasm to the cause.

Georgina Wilson

Hi, I'm 'Chief Fundraiser' for this outfit! I'm based up in Manchester and am currently raising funds for our various projects making trust fund applications. I basically fell in love with Malawi when I visited and have worked to raise funds for Build A School ever since.

Our manager Grieve and his family looked after me, showed me the real Malawi and introduced me to so many people that are very excited about the work we are doing there - they really do understand how important being educated is and I feel very privileged I get to play a part in making that happen.

Richard Chatambalala

Hello to you all. I am the accountant for Build A School Malawi and have loved being a part of the team. I had worked for the European Union for many years so have a wealth of experience of dealing with project financing here in Africa. My role has developed to support Grieve and make sure we deliver for our supporters around the world.

Lucy Holmes

Hi, I've been working in the charity sector for some time now and I came on board to help drive our fundraising team. I was impressed with the purpose of Build A School and wanted to use my experiences in corporate and campaign fundraising to develop our mission. I'm based on the south coast and I look forward to helping achieve our obejctives in the coming years. My hobbies include complaing about the size of the office in Brighton and stopping Luke from avoiding paperwork.
