ABOUT BUILD A SCHOOL
Our history:
Build A School was established in 2007 to help provide an education to the world’s most needy children. Through the use of films to show our work and improve transparency, campaigns to attract individuals and businesses, hard work and dedicated support, we have developed the way we engage our donors in the construction process. Our team has grown and our relationships with the Malawian people and government have strengthened.
Our first school in Mbelekete, Malawi, allowed us to better understand the impact of the building process. Through the challenges of working in Africa we began to recognise the desperate need to incorporate the principles of sustainable development. As attention in the ‘developed’ world turns towards climate change and renewable energy, resource depletion and the impact of climate change are growing in the ‘developing’ world. Our need to continue building schools still remains but we recognised the need for sustainable development in our future work.
Our future:
We are working with experts in livestock, agriculture and sustainable building to offer a more holistic approach to meeting our education goals. Not only are we focused on providing classrooms for children, but we are developing land to provide a “Sustainable Development Education Centre”. By working with experts and project managing the overall centre, we can showcase best practice in sustainable development. We will be able to provide vital free education to farmers, builders, politicians, non-government organisations and Malawian citizens, providing real examples of sustainable development on site and a centre to share knowledge.
As we improve and grow, we aim to bring Sustainable Development Education Centres to other locations. By cultivating the talents and knowledge of people in developing countries they can create solutions for a secure future.
